Fall Is Here

The “Season of Mists & Mellow Fruitfulness” has arrived. Time to wrap-up some outdoor activities and Reader’s Garden Cafe is closing for the season; last weekend is Sunday, Sept 29th. But the Garden will remain cloaked in fine colors for a long time to come. Enjoy!

Heavenly Perfume!

Gosh! The exquisite sweet, citrusy fragrance along the Switch Back road at Reader’s will blow your socks off!! The Mock Orange shrubs, aka Philadelphus coronarius, are in bloom and create a feast for the senses, truly heavenly !!

Plant Theft Again!

During the period of June 3-4, around the Main Lawn, unscrupulous thieves stole a large clump of Fern Leaf Peony.    Please help us protect this special place!  Stay alert of suspicious behavior and report questionable &/or destructive actions to the Police.   We need to keep this National Historic Site safe for everyone’s enjoyment. Thank you for your concern & vigilance.

BTW, our Annual Plant Sale offers great buys. Plus, we luv to share our plants with the public, when it’s appropriate to do so, considering the plants’ life-cycle and health. That would be the “honest way” to welcome our plants to your home garden. Just sayin !

Annual Plant Sale Completed!

Thank-you for attending yesterday’s Plant Sale! Despite the rainy start, the event was a success!! Of course our fabulous hard-working volunteers made the day 💚 & the Cafe offered yummy treats too. Plus Catherine F. bidded generously for the handmade auction table. So nice to see you & we appreciate your support; Bravo All 😊!

Hope your winter Holidays were good to you!

Here at the greenhouse new life is emerging to greet the coming spring, even though it’s currently very cold outside. ❄

And, so it begins … Romulea bulbocodium, an out of zone corm that will be grown for the herbarium and overwinter inside; Allium senescens ssp. Montanum & Campanula thyrsoides – all sprouts looking promising & cozy in the indoor warmth. 🌱
